Welcome To the Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation

The R.I. Lions Sight Foundation was founded in 1961 as the charitable
arm of the Lions Clubs of District 42 - Rhode Island and provides a
link to those service providers and organizations which are
committed to the preservation of sight and aiding the visually
impaired. Best known for its vision screenings at local businesses,
schools, and health fairs and for its collection of used eyeglasses
for distribution in Third World countries, the Foundation also
engages other activities including: providing scores of grants to
visually impaired Rhode Islanders for corrective surgery,
prostheses, or technical visual equipment to afford those
individuals an opportunity for a full and productive life;
sponsorship of 2 camps for Rhode Island’s visually-impaired
youngsters; providing "large print" books and audiocassettes to
every library in the state; organizing manpower of local Lions clubs
to screen children’s eyes each year and make referrals to eye
doctors; organizing a Visually Impaired Persons Fishing Tournament
the past 3 years. In addition to the above, the Foundation continues
to service the visually impaired where the need for assistance
exceeds local Lions Club resources or in areas of the state without
a local Lions club presence.
